Diaphan Studio is a Milan-based atelier founded by Alessandro Giacomelli and Dominique Wolniewicz — a gemologist and a lighting designer whose shared obsession is the behaviour of light as it moves through matter. Established in 2019, the studio draws on crystallography, optical physics, and the invisible geometries that structure the natural world. Their process begins with deep material research: how light refracts through translucent stone, how it multiplies within polished brass cavities, how a single LED source can be transformed into a luminous painting that extends far beyond the object itself. Each piece is a light sculpture first. The fixture is its instrument.

The studio works at the intersection of craft and optics. Every collection begins with a question about light — how it can be shaped, scattered, diffused, or concentrated — and resolves into objects of considered restraint: solid brass, precise geometry, controlled effect. Production is handled by a close network of specialist artisans in northern Italy, with prototyping carried out in close collaboration between Milan and Puglia. Each piece is made by hand, to order. Alongside the collection, Diaphan works on architectural lighting and site-specific commissions for residential and hospitality projects worldwide.
